JOHOR BARU: It is premature to say that local companies are not interested in investing in the economic corridors launched by the Government, said Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin.
He said big projects such as the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) needed time to develop to enable participation from local investors.
“I believe local companies are keen to invest in the corridors.
“Maybe they haven’t found the right opening or means to do so,” he said, adding that the matter would be resolved in time.
He was responding to a statement by Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin that local companies were not keen to invest in the various economic corridors.
On the election front, Khaled, who is Pasir Gudang Umno chief, said his division was prepared for the next general election.
“However, we do not exist solely for the election but are here to serve the people of various races.
“It is not a popularity contest. The main objective is for the people’s development,” he added.
