CREATING a more sustainable city will require lots of changes on the part of the individual.
PJ Mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said the council was going all out to green the city via encouragement and making it a way of life among the people.
It is their choice to recycle, minimise consumption, drive less and support efforts of the local council aimed at cutting down the collective carbon footprint.
“We want to move together with the residents. Our aim now is to get people to reduce the usage of plastic bags and provide alternative transport, where kilometres of cycling network would be created around the city,” he said.
Roslan who launched the Sustainable Community event and the coffee table book — Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Initiatives...Spirit of a City recently said the uphill task was to bring about individual behaviour changes.
“We want to see what motivates people to adopt a sustainable behaviour and work towards giving some incentive until people adopt a reverent attitude towards protecting the environment,” he said.
Roslan added that the 158-pages coffee table book served as an important record of cooperative community efforts towards sustainability.
“It is a testimony of shared commitment between MBPJ and residents to shape sustainability as an integral part of community life in PJ.”
